Today I have made my plinth for the PS3 to go on when it is exhibited as part of the assessment show and the public show on the 9th June. I shall soon be posting an invitation on here to all of you who read the blog but to find out more information go to www.artistsontherun.co.uk. This is our group website and has the details of the show plus all our statements.
I lied actually, because I haven’t quite finished the plinth as I need to buy a top for it tomorrow but once I’ve done that and fixed it on it’ll just need painting, which I might ask one of the helpers to do so as I can get on with knitting the controller. My brother has emailed me the pictures now too so I can start the embroidery too – it’s all systems go!
Introduction
Hello! Firstly, thanks for looking at this page and please read on! My name is Kimberley Elderton and I'm an artist working with knitting. I also work with video and the internet to document my work which has so far consisted mainly of socially engaged performance pieces (see my website for more details: www.uwic.ac.uk/csad/timebased/ - click on students then my name).
This new project is a little different. I am still fascinated by knitting and I realised at the beginning of this year that I'm going to need to tighten my purse strings a little as three years of student life has taken it's toll on the bank balance! So I decided that I would have to knit everything that I want instead. Obviously the irony is that the things I knit are useless in terms of function. The process also brings up all sorts of issues: independence, self sufficiency, greed, consumerism, patience, appreciation of time, appreciation of skill - and loads more which will hopefully be discussed in the postings as the blog grows. I hope all of you enjoy learning about and contributing to this project.
